Our Story
Everybody left. He bought the block back.
April 29, 1992. When the smoke cleared there were no beauty supplies left standing — not on the block, not for us.
His last $5,000 opened the first store. And what he could not find on anybody's shelf, he started making himself.
Butters came first, from recipes carried down through his African roots. Then hair care. Now styling — edges, braids, cornrows, locs and twists.
Premium formulas at prices that do not shut anybody out. Clean, every one of them. Thirty-four years in our own lab, and we are still improving them.

Butters came first. Then hair care. Now styling — and every one of them is still made in our own lab, 34 years on. Nothing is outsourced and nothing ships that we would not put on our own edges.
That lab is trusted well beyond our own label — major retailers including Target, Ulta and Sephora rely on our manufacturing. It is also how we hold a premium formula at a price that does not shut anybody out.

Vegan beeswax gives a strong, flexible hold and lets moisture reach the hair instead of sealing it out.

34 years of in-house manufacturing. Controlling every formula and every batch is how we keep it premium and still affordable — and we are still improving.
